Alessio Satta is driven by a strong belief that a better understanding of ecological processes is required in order to face the challenges of socio-economic development and climate change.
Alessio Satta has more than 15 years’ experience in environmental planning and environmental engineering, with more than 10 years in International Development Assistance to the MED countries including his current assignment of project officer at the Joint Technical Secretariat of ENPI CBC MED.
Concerning its personal background he's a Environmental Engineer specialised in groundwater management at the Imperial College of London and with a Post-graduate Degree in Environmental Engineering Management at Ecole des Mines de Paris. Alessio holds a European Ph.D. on Climate Change Science and Management from the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice where he focused on the assessment of coastal risks and vulnerabilities to natural hazards exacerbated by climate variability.
As executive director of the Sardinian Coastal Management agency, Alessio Satta was in charge for ICZM and sustainable development implementation policies in Sardinia including the definition of institutional reform, legislation drafting, strategy formulation in different strategic fields related to coastal areas. One of the most relevant part of his duties consisted in finding creative solutions to harmonize conservation of coastal resources and adaptation to climate and non-climate changes with new and innovative models of local development.
Alessio Satta has a good understanding and practise of United Nations Environmental Programme and EU policies, programmes, projects and funding as he collaborated for the past ten years with UNEP DTIE, PAP/RAC, SCP/RAC and Blue Plan/RAC of the Mediterranean Action Plan. Alessio is currently involved in the preparation of the SCP Action Plan for the Mediterranean
As policy advisor he has provided support to several institutions engaged in national and international projects including Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, Albania and Croatia and becoming fully aware with UNEP/MAP Convention Policy and Governance framework.
Alessio Satta core competencies are Integrated Coastal Zone Management, Project Management, Climate Change Adaptation, Sea and Coastal Conservation, Environmental Engineering, Sustainable Development strategies, Ecotourism and Sustainable Tourism, Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
